I hope you had a marvelous Monday!
I have received some questions regarding the research papers due this week. In light of these inquiries I have made two documents. One is an expanded rubric with tiered scores. Another is a mock/sample paper so you can see what I expect you to turn in. The rubric has a second page with additional FAQs. I have posted them to the Magnet Biology home page and also attached them here:
Since this was created and posted only today, I will allow students to turn them in until Friday when the logbook is due. This means I will accept papers on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. After Friday they will be considered late. The logbook (with pictures) is also due Friday.
If you have any questions feel free to comment below or email me!
Magnet Biology students,
It has been brought to my attention that the Henrietta Lacks assignment is unclear and has caused some undue stress among the class.
To ease some tension, remember that we will discuss the prompt on Tuesday, but I will not collect any or all prompts until the end of the semester. And to make matters simpler, as we discuss in class on Tuesday, I will give time for you to share your thoughts with your peers and for you to write down any new thoughts or ideas. Meaning, instead of worrying about having a perfect essay response due Tuesday, just jot down some ideas and we will discuss and flesh it out in class throughout the semester.
It was not my intention to assign a time-consuming project over break but to give you something to think about for our next discussion.
Please pass the word along to your friends not to fret about the assignment. I will clear up any additional misconceptions during class tomorrow.
Thanks and enjoy the last day of break,
If you missed open house, see an outline of what we discussed below:
I hope you had a wonderful first week. It was a pleasure to meet all of you and I'm looking forward to an exciting semester!
Remember, magnet students, you have a quiz on Monday and then we're diving straight into unit 2.
My on-level class should be studying the quizlet on my blog.
I hope you had a blast exploring mars with me today!
