There has been a significant development in the search from extraterrestrial life. A recent discovery suggests that there is a planet in Proxima Centuri that could sustain life. The planet is 4.2 light years away, which is too far to transport technolgy in the current millennium. The fastest spacecraft humans have ever launched, called the NASA New Horizons, would take 80,000 years to reach the planet. Another technique called solar sail propulsion, would be a bit faster, but it would still take 66,000 years to get there. Many people have proposed that we use novel propulsion schemes, which could reduce the amount of time by a lot.
